Grading Policy
Grading is a cornerstone of academic rigor at NAI, ensuring that student performance is measured accurately, fairly, and in alignment with course learning outcomes. Students are evaluated using a published grading scale and clear assessment criteria, designed to reflect their understanding, skills, and competencies. All assessments are graded by qualified faculty, with feedback provided promptly to support continuous improvement and academic success.
To maintain the integrity of NAI programs, grading policies and practices are outlined in the Grading Policy Guidelines. Faculty follow standardized rubrics and evaluation methods that ensure consistency across all courses and programs. The grading scale and related policies, such as course extension requests and incomplete grade procedures, are available to all students through the orientation sandbox, the academic catalog, and the LMS.
Grading Scale
The grading scale defines performance levels and grade points as follows (example):
- A (90–100%) – Excellent performance demonstrating advanced understanding.
- B (80–89%) – Proficient performance meeting all learning outcomes.
- C (70–79%) – Satisfactory performance with room for improvement.
- D (60–69%) – Marginal performance below expectations.
- F (Below 60%) – Unsatisfactory performance or failure to meet minimum standards.
Faculty are required to apply these standards consistently, ensuring that every grade accurately reflects a student’s mastery of course objectives.
Grading Procedures
Assessments, including assignments, quizzes, projects, and final exams, are evaluated according to predefined rubrics included in the course syllabus. Students receive clear instructions and timelines for each assessment, and feedback is typically provided within a set turnaround time to ensure prompt support. When applicable, grades are adjusted or re-evaluated following documented grade appeals or error reviews.
Incomplete Grades
An incomplete grade (I) may be granted in exceptional circumstances, such as illness or emergency, where the student is unable to complete final course requirements on time. Students must request an incomplete grade in writing using the official Request for Incomplete Grade Form. All outstanding work must be completed within the time frame specified by the instructor and approved by the Academic Affairs Committee.
Course Extensions
Students who require additional time beyond the scheduled course end date may request an extension by submitting the appropriate form before the course concludes. Requests are evaluated on a case-by-case basis, and approval is contingent upon the student’s overall academic progress.
Grade Appeals
Students have the right to appeal a final grade if they believe it has been miscalculated or unfairly assigned. Appeals must be submitted in writing to the Office of the Registrar within 10 business days of receiving the grade. The appeal is reviewed by the Program Advisor and Academic Affairs Committee, whose decision is final.
Ensuring Consistency and Accuracy
Faculty are trained in institutional grading policies during onboarding and are provided ongoing updates through workshops and faculty meetings. The Academic Affairs Committee, in collaboration with the Office of the Registrar, monitors grading practices to ensure they are applied accurately, consistently, and in accordance with institutional standards.
