Student Identity Verification Policy
This policy applies to all educational courses or programs offered by NeuAge Institute (NAI), beginning with the application for admission and continuing through to a student’s graduation, transfer, or withdrawal from study. NeuAge Institute’s Student Identity Verification Policy is rooted in the Higher Education Opportunity Act (HEOA) of 2008, which mandates the verification of student identity for distance or correspondence education. The HEOA requires that institutions offering distance education or correspondence courses or programs have processes in place to ensure that the student registering for a course is the same student who participates in the course or receives course credit. The Act requires that institutions use one of the following methods:
- Strict identity verification and confirmation upon enrollment
- A secure login and passcode;
- New or other technologies and practices that are effective in verifying student identification.
The primary objective of this policy is to establish comprehensive procedures for verifying the identity of students enrolled in distance education courses and those accessing personal identifiable information through the Learning Management System (LMS). NeuAge Institute has formulated its Student Identity Verification policy by adhering to external regulations, rules, and guidance, notably Code of Federal Regulations 602.17(g). This regulation necessitates that institutions offering distance education have robust processes to confirm that the student registering for such courses is the same individual participating in and completing the program and receiving academic credit. Additionally, institutions must communicate in writing the need for processes that protect student privacy and notify students of any potential additional charges associated with identity verification at the time of registration or enrollment. NeuAge Institute complies fully with the provisions of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. 1232g. This act protects the privacy of student information in distance education by requiring, with certain limited exceptions, that the student’s consent must be obtained before disclosing any personally identifiable information in the student’s education records.
Compliance
All students at NeuAge Institute are provided a unique username for secure access to NeuAge Institutes LMS. New students obtain their unique username following enrollment and providing the mandated personal information and government-issued identification.
Students are responsible for providing their complete and true identity information in any identification verification process. It is against NAI policy for a user to give someone their password or to allow others to use their account.
NeuAge Institute uses Brightspace as its Learning Management System. The Brightspace system ensures appropriate and secure student access to courses and other Student Information Systems. All users of the NeuAge Institutes learning management system are responsible for maintaining the security of their username and passwords, or any other access credentials as required. Attempting to discover another user’s password or attempts to gain unauthorized access to another person’s files or email is prohibited. At this time there are no additional student fees associated with student verification. In the event any verification fee is needed, it will be posted on the course registration site to provide an advance alert to students.
